Geology of the Grand Mesa In-Person

Understand the geological evolution of the Grand Mesa, and gain insights into the "science behind the scenery." After describing the rocks, topography, and geography of the Mesa, the four steps involved in its formation will be discussed. Geologic myths will also be addressed. Photos and diagrams will accompany the presentation.

About the Presenter:

Rex Cole, Ph.D., professor of Geology at Colorado Mesa University is a native of western Colorado and has taught at Colorado Mesa University (formerly Mesa State College) since 1995. Prior to joining CMU, he was a research geologist for Unocal Corp. Multi-Mineral Corp. and the Bendix Field Engineering, Corp. He has also taught at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. His undergraduate degrees are from Mesa College and Colorado State University, and his graduate degree is from the University of Utah. His research on the Grand Mesa spans 35 years.
