Mesa County Oral History Meeting: Preserving Our History and Heritage

Chris Miller, Executive Director of the Interpretive Association of Western Colorado, in association with Mesa County Historical Society, will present a 60-min slide show, highlighting eight projects that the Interpretative Association of Western Colorado has administered over the past 15 years. The program celebrates diverse places, traditions, and stories of our region. At the heart of the project is the preservation of Western Colorado's Cultural Heritage and Landscapes.

The program will cover the following projects: Enos T. Hotchkiss Barn located in Hotchkiss (designated to Colorado's 2013 Most Endangered Places), the Homesteading properties located in Escalante Canyon, Captain Smith's Cabin, the North Branch of the Old Spanish Trail, the Historic Driggs Mansion, the preservation of the Historic Hanging Flume (the longest historic structure in the state of Colorado), the Walker Homestead, and the last known Water Wheel on the Gunnison River.

The Interpretive Association has had a long time relationship with public agencies, administrating projects on behalf of BLM, CPW, USFS and Scenic Byways. Because people and places matter, IAWC is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich stories, legacies, and landscapes of western Colorado. Visit IAWC's website
